When looking for a GPS radar detector there a number of features that you need to look for in a unit. Basically, a GPS radar detector is small unit that is installed in your vehicle that is able to alert you to laser speed traps and other police radars before you come upon them. GPS radar detectors obviously use GPS positioning systems to establish the exact position of these laser speed traps. The first feature to look for of course is size, and where the unit can be mounted. You basically get three types of mountings for GPS radar detectors, namely remote mounted, corded and cordless units. The unit type you go with obviously has an impact on the price you are going to pay. Remote mounted units are fitted to the grilles of cars, whereas the other two types are more discreet in nature and usually contained within the car on the dash or attached to the inside of the windshield. You also need to ensure that you get a unit that has at least three sensitivity modes. These sensitivity settings allow you to set your GPS radar detector to a weaker or stronger setting depending on the neighbourhood you are in.
